Art House Extra | John McGrath Reviews "Doctor Sleep"
For our latest "Art House" extra, Flatland producer John McGrath reviews "Doctor Sleep" directed by Mike Flanagan.
"Doctor Sleep" is a sequel to "The Shining", both the book by Stephen King and the film from the late, great Stanley Kubrick. Flanagan the director said the film would try and reconcile the differences between The Shining novel and film. And according to McGrath, he succeeds. McGrath loves the way Flanagan takes shots from Kubricks version and recreates them for this film, and the way he gets actors that look like characters from the 1980 film to play them in his 2019 film.
All in all, McGrath says it's a gem of a film, and that the biggest problem is the title, "Doctor Sleep". Maby "Shining 2" of just "Shine"?
